About the Bundle

Start with the Introduction to Behavioral Gerontology course, where you'll gain a solid foundation in behavioral gerontology and discover how behavior analysis can improve the lives of older adults. You’ll explore the history of the field, where behavioral gerontologists work, and the unique needs of aging populations. You'll learn effective strategies to reduce disengagement, address prompt dependency, and maintain meaningful behaviors. You’ll also get insights into common behavioral challenges in older adults and key considerations for behavior analysts working in this space.

Move on to the Behavioral Approach to Understanding Dementia course, where you will learn how we conceptualize dementia from a behavior-analytic perspective. This course will teach you the basics to understand dementia and how we conceptualize the changes in behaviour we see displayed by people with dementia from a behavior - analytic perspective. We'll look at the research that supports this conceptualization and the implications for clinical practice with this population.

Then, gain a deeper understanding of how to manage behaviors that challenge in individuals with dementia using evidence-based behavioral approaches in the Managing Common Behavioral Challenges by Adults with Dementia course. In this course, you'll explore effective strategies for addressing behaviors like agitation, aggression, wandering, hoarding, and more. You’ll learn not only the research on interventions for these behaviors, but also important considerations for behavior analysts who are asked to reduce these behaviors. Whether you're a Behavior Analyst working with other populations, a student, or just interested in ABA with older adults with dementia, this course will ensure you have the foundational knowledge in intervening on common behavioral challenges shown by this population.

Finally, in the Clinical Case Study: Teaching an 81-Year-Old to Use Subtle Prompts to Increase Showering by His Spouse With Dementia you'll learn about a real life example of therapeutic work completed by Dr Zoe Lucock with an older adult with dementia and her spouse in their own home. You'll understand the changes that can be made to data collection to ensure acceptability for older adults and the importance of adjusting interventions to maintain fidelity. This course has a focus on looking at the ways in which we can design interventions that preserve dignity for older adults with dementia.

Got questions?

Who is this bundle for?

BCBAs/BCaBAs/RBTs/UKBA(Cert)s who are interested in a behavioral approach to working with older adults, particularly those with a diagnosis of dementia.

How long do I have access to the courses?

You have 90 days from purchasing the bundle to complete the courses. If you need longer, please just contact me and I will do my best to add additional time.

Can I collect my CEUs for this course?

Yes! Enrich Behavioral Gerontology is a BACB authorised ACE provider, and this course bundle is worth 6 BCBA learning CEUs.

When you have completed each course, you will receive an email with your certificate attached. Remember to enter your BACB ID number when you sign up!

These CEUs are also suitable for renewing your UKSBA membership.

How long does the course take?

I estimate that the course will take roughly six hours to complete from start to finish including completing the quizzes to test your understanding.

Is this course suitable for ABA students?

Definitely! You don't need to be certified to want to learn more about ABA with older adults. Many masters degrees in ABA don't have any content about this niche area, so seeking out additional learning beyond the course curriculum is a great way to develop your skills as a behavior analyst.

Is this course suitable for international Behavior Analysts?

Absolutely! Our course is available to anyone in the world and we don't think it would be right to restrict access. The content is suitable for Behavior Analysts interested in behavioral gerontology no matter where you live and work. I try to use American spellings wherever possible but as a British Behavior Analysts, I do sometimes forget and slip into British English spellings :)

How do I pay for the bundle?

All courses are paid for via PayPal, crediit card (Stripe) or Apple Pay so you have peace of mind that your details are protected.

Are there any prerequisites I need to take the courses?

Some prior knowledge of ABA is assumed - I will use terms like reinforcement, stimulus control, and MOs without definition. No prior knowledge of work with older adults is needed to enjoy the courses!
